Tris (isopropylcyclopentadienyl) lutetium is used as a precursor for the synthesis of organometallic compounds. Lu(iPrCp)₃ has been used for examining the atomic layer deposition (ALD) of Lu_xAl_2−xO₃ in a nanolaminate approach. See link below
