Chloromethyl methyl ether is used in organic synthesis for the introduction of the methoxymethyl(MOM) protecting group and as a chloromethylating agent. It also finds application as an alkylating agent and industrial solvent to manufacture the industrial polymers, water repellents, and ion-exchange resins.
